The Line of Vanity

You were like chiseled art
smoothed against a glistening sky.
You thought you owned the ground;
its foliage flattered
your faultless features.
I seemed still
like the woolly weeds and grass,
but the wind shifted and I moved.
This became your furrow-
the wrinkle that cracked you
like the quick whisper
that rips the sure silence of church.
