WHAT OVERWHELMS US

A cozy darkness
between bright lights

whether stars alight beyond great redwoods
or a city whose night life is like powerful ejaculation
…a vent for the seed of our minds
chaotically, wildly sent forth in a quiet moan
pregnant with silences.

Nudes in our artbooks
feed a more calming revelry,
dancing nudes of painters like Matisse

and those serene statues
of Italy and Greece

…picasso in that structural essence
…all of these sexual and cerebral lights
pave the way straight
toward a society of angels

beyond thoughts of death
or even death’s reality.

I sing with my pen
because my lover is an artist
and painter

my mind is a peaceful darkness
wherein lights shine…
