I have breathed the life I breathe
because I fear!

Autumn cools the fires of Summer down
on the right edge of September
in a stale soldier town.

I shiver and remember
the soul which burned its corpse into this year.

I long to be in from the withered leaves
alike the later snow.
And to touch the heart of man
in which God alone believes
…but to know the things I know
from a distance like eternity

when Winter freezes Autumn
in this city’s frozen tear.
